Empowerment Council

I'm Lara Davies, and I am a founding member of the WFCO Empowerment Council.

On August 8, 2010, I will be participating in the Ironman 70.3 Boulder. This event consists of a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile run.

As many of you know, the last year has been one of much personal growth allowing me to experience deeper and more fulfilling relationships with loved ones and most importantly with myself. Throughout my journey, I have developed emotionally and spiritually but also physically.

Over the years, I have competed in several sprint triathlons but in the fall of 2009 I knew I wanted to accomplish a major physical milestone as part of my growth. And so I decided to do my first half ironman.

As I embark on my last few weeks of training I feel so empowered, knowing I can accomplish my goal. It is an incredible feeling of strength and courage and something I’ve wished I could share with other women. Then I realized I can–by raising money for the Empowerment Council.

In addition to fitness, one of my other passions is serving on the Empowerment Council of the Women's Foundation of Colorado. The Council is a philanthropic community of young professional women who contribute to the empowerment of Colorado’s girls and women by helping the WFCO fulfill its mission -- that every woman in Colorado is economically self-sufficient, and every girl in Colorado is on the path to economic self-sufficiency. WFCO works to attain these goals by building resources and leading change so that the women and girls of Colorado are full and equal participants in society.

I hope you will consider contributing to the Empowerment Council and know that your gift will go toward empowering girls and women across Colorado. Through my hours of training and preparation I have learned that being empowered is an invaluable gift which can enable women to fulfill their dreams.
