Below is a list of books, articles, videos, pocket guides and more that the staff of The Women's Foundation of Colorado has used to learn more about gender and gender identity, allyship, language, and more. We hope they inform you, too.
The Women’s Foundation of Colorado believes any person identifying as a woman is a woman - regardless of gender expression and including all trans women, intersex women, and non-trans women. The concept that people fall into only two gender categories - women or men - causes harm and exclusion for those of us who do not “fit” into a gender binary and to those of us who do. The enforcement and expectation of this gender binary is both oppressive and rooted in histories of colonization.

Gender Identity is one's innate, self-concept of their gender as male, female, both, or neither. This may or may not match the sex assigned at birth. Gender Identity is not outwardly visible to others.

Allies are important and welcomed supporters of the LGBTQIAP community. They speak up for what's right, support equitable policies, have a willingness to learn, and show genuine concern for the well-being of the LGBTQIAP community.
